Join us for an exciting day of learning and discovery at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse! This event is designed to provide Scouts and adult leaders with a variety of engaging classes and valuable opportunities to expand their skills.

Schedule of Events

  • 9:00 AM: Presentation by UWL Admissions
    • Parents are encouraged to stay for this informative session.
  • 9:30-1:30 Merit Badge Classes with a lunch break 

Scouts can choose from the following classes:

  • Sustainability
  • Citizenship in the World
  • Radio
  • Law
  • God and Life
  • Robotics
  • Traffic Safety
  • Programming

Additionally, there will be training sessions for adult leaders.

Who Should Attend?

This event is open to Scouts and their parents or guardians, as well as adult leaders looking to enhance their skills.

Merit Badge Day February 1, 2024 UWL

 

Sustainability - Amy Bettis

Req 1 (a) Evaluate your household water usage. If available, review water bills from the past year and evaluate the seasonal changes in water use. Identify three ways to help reduce water consumption.

Req 5 (c) List five ways you and your family could reduce energy consumption in your home, such as adjusting your thermostat, window shades, opening windows, reducing hot-water temperature, and minimizing water consumption. Identify the benefits and risks of each idea and implement if possible.

Req 6 (a) Create a list of 15 items of your personal "stuff." Classify each item as an essential need (such as soap) or a desirable want (such as a video game). Identify any excess "stuff" you no longer need, working with your family, if possible. Donate, repurpose, or recycle those items you can.


 

Citizenship in the World - Chester Hilton -

Req #3a - Pick a current world event. In relation to this current event, discuss with your counselor how a country’s national interest, history, and its relationship with other countries might affect areas such as its security, its economy, its values, and the health of its citizens.

Req #3b - Select a foreign country and discuss with your counselor how its geography, natural resources, and climate influence its economy and its global partnerships with other countries

Req #7a - Visit the website of the U.S. State Department. Learn more about an issue you find interesting that is discussed on this website.

Req #7b - Visit the website of an international news organization or foreign government, OR examine a foreign newspaper available at your local library, bookstore, or newsstand. Find a news story about a human right realized in the United States that is not recognized in another country.

4. Ask five people (not more than one from your immediate family) about the role of law enforcement officers in our society. Discuss their answers with them.

Bring a copy of this Robotics Merit Badge Worksheet, and a notepad, pen or pencil If you want, you could work on requirements 3,5b,6,7, and the MB counselor will review and sign off
